Cox’s Movember Kick-Off

One of our most memorable experiences of 2014 was covering Cox Enterprise‘s Movember kick-off event. During Movember, the month formerly known as November, men and women work together to raise awareness and funds to fight prostate cancer.

For 30 days men grow a Mo–that’s Aussie slang for moustache–and women support that growth. Mo Bros and Mo Sistas ask family and friends to donate to their efforts.

Cox’s Movember campaign kick-off was a powerful way to raise awareness in our own community and get people involved. The event attracted about 2,000 people and raised more than $2,500–an incredible level of participation that single-handedly crashed the Movember.com site!

The massive turnout on the C-Tech lawn hints at how personal this cause is for the Cox community. Many have been touched by prostate cancer, including Jamie Kennedy’s father.

One of the coolest things about this campaign is that it combines doing good with having fun. The Cox team made it clear that wearing a ‘stache is really a blast! Lyndsey and I were thrilled to see so much support for Movember taking root at the kick-off.

Cox’s efforts are part of a movement that now spans more than 21 countries and five continents. Funds raised in the US go toward programs run by the Movember Foundation, often in partnership with the Prostate Cancer Foundation, the LIVESTRONG Foundation and other organizations. Since the kick-off event we’ve learned just how incredible Cox’s contribution really was: Team Cox ultimately raised the most money in the world this year! The company matched employee contributions, donating nearly $1,600,000 to the cause.

Best of 2013 – Part II

The archives are still overflowing with great shots from 2013 that we couldn’t fit into “Part I” of AEP’s “Best of 2013” collection. So, we’ve pulled another batch of photos to share with you in “Part II” of our tribute to the amazing sights and experiences last year brought us.

Fox Sports South

We were thrilled when Fox Sports South engaged us last year. They have the kinds of events most anyone would want to attend; plus, we quickly learned that their on-air and behind the scenes teams are a ton of fun. Just take a look at these shots from our work with The NEW College Football Show and South Girls.

Fox’s “Tribute to the Troops” event at Turner Field also reminded us that they bring sports to Atlanta with a healthy dose of heart. From the crowd’s standing ovation to warm greetings from Atlanta Braves players, the selfless men and women who serve our country experienced a really big and much deserved “thank you.”

Cox Enterprises and CMG

If you’re a fan of the Zac Brown Band like all of us at AEP you would have loved the dinner Cox Media Group (CMG) hosted during their 2013 President’s Circle conference in Orlando. CMG is a subsidiary of Cox Enterprises focusing on broadcasting, publishing, direct marketing and digital media.

I’d like to wrap this up with a look back at our coverage of the Bike MS event for Cox Enterprises, the title sponsor. The fundraiser is held annually at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain to support the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. It’s a beautiful setting and a worthwhile cause–and there’s still time to get involved in the 2014 event, scheduled for September 20-21.

Thanks again to all of the organizations that made 2013 an amazing year for AEP. Can’t wait to see what 2014 brings in front of our lenses!

Oh, what a night!

I was lucky enough to photograph Jimmy and Lynn Hayes’ holiday party at their gorgeous Atlanta home earlier this month. Jimmy, CEO of Cox Enterprises, and wife Lynn treated guests to an evening replete with holiday spirit and sparkle galore. Among the guests in attendance were Cox executives Doug Franklin and Sandy Schwartz, as well as many of the Hayes’ friends from both Atlanta and St. Petersburg, Florida.

Lynn is known for decorating elaborately for the holidays, and this year proved to be no exception. Guests were greeted by the glow of a beautiful Christmas tree in the grand entry of the home.

The stunner you see above was only the first of many—so many, in fact, that partygoers were asked to guess the number of trees gracing the home’s expansive interior.
Lynn used nearly every corner and surface of the home to create beautiful holiday displays. We loved the combination of elegance with playful whimsy.

Kudos to Bold American Events & Catering for presenting a buffet that offered both a feast for the eyes as well as a host of savory and sweet bites sure to satisfy real appetites.

In a fun twist, the hosts invited guests to burn off the delicious refreshments with some time on the dance floor. Everyone was treated to performances by dance instructors from the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Sarasota, FL, and to a ballroom dance lesson.
I count this party among the many gifts I’ve been lucky enough to enjoy this holiday season. Thank you, Jimmy and Lynn, from all of us at Atlanta Event Photography!

Cox Kicks Off Annual Employee Giving Campaign

We were honored to join Cox Enterprises on October 8 for the kick off of their annual employee giving campaign. This is the fifth year Atlanta Event Photography has shot the event, and the passion Cox employees show for giving back to the community never ceases to impress.

This year AutoTrader hosted the college sports-themed event, complete with food and games to satisfy fans and players alike! The crew from B98.5 FM provided music.

We loved the competitive spirit Cox employees brought to the games. Whether it was baseball, football, basketball or the beanbag toss, they were in it to win!

Harry the Hawk, mascot of the Atlanta Hawks basketball team, made a special appearance at the festivities. Quick to show his athletic versatility, Harry even tossed a football for the cause.

While they were giving it their all on the playing field, this was not all fun and games. The serious business of giving was also underway. Throughout the event employees pledged their support for The United Way, EarthShare and other non-profit organizations. The festivities took place right on the Cox campus on C-Tech Lawn so Atlanta employees could easily drop in as their schedules allowed.

Many Cox senior executives dropped in throughout the afternoon. Cox’s Chief Operating Officer, John Dyer, and AutoTrader’s Jim Franchi spoke to the crowd to help get everyone in the spirit of giving.

Special thanks to Christina Carter at Cox for getting us involved in this worthwhile event!
