Governor Deal Signs House Bill 429

If you or anyone you love has been diagnosed with autism, you may already be aware of Georgia House Bill 429. The bill aims to ensure kids with autism have early access to critical therapies by requiring state-regulated insurance companies to cover treatment for those ages 6 and under. This is a huge victory for Georgia’s kids and legislation we can all celebrate, regardless of our political leanings.

We were thrilled to have our own Jason Hales on-site at the Capitol to capture the signing of the bill by Governor Nathan Deal. The Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta mascots brought their usual spirit to the event!

The autism insurance reform bill was sponsored by Senator Charlie Bethel (R-Dalton) and passed as an addition to HB 429, sponsored by Representative Ron Stephens (R-Savannah). Along with Senator Bethel and Representative Stephens, many members of the General Assembly worked together to make this a reality, including strong support from Governor Deal, Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle, Senator Renee Unterman (R-Buford) and Representative Richard Smith (R-Columbus).

Special thanks to Patty Gregory at CHOA for allowing us to cover this momentous event. We applaud your efforts in supporting kids with autism.

A Walk in the Park with Equifax

I wish financial literacy had been an educational priority when I was young. Unless our parents were well versed in finance, my classmates and I generally had to figure it out on our own. Many, like me, did so while stumbling through early adulthood. Thanks to Junior Achievement of Georgia and Equifax, local middle schoolers will be much better prepared to manage their finances and credit. We had the chance to see Equifax volunteers and the kids in action at the innovative Junior Achievement Finance Park.

Imagine an interactive marketplace where kids can make personal finance decisions in simulated real-world situations. That’s JA Finance Park in the Georgia World Congress Center. It opened only two years ago and about 30,000 students have already experienced it. Equifax is one of several Atlanta corporations that have joined Junior Achievement’s mission to help students understand credit and personal finance as real-world, practical concepts.

If you’re like me, seventh and eighth grade may strike you as a bit young for kids to begin understanding credit. But Junior Achievement targets this specific group based on research findings that kids start disengaging from school in seventh and eighth grade, when they first begin seeing it as irrelevant to their real lives. I can report confidently that the kids we photographed were highly engaged in the JA Finance Park experience!

I speak for the entire Atlanta Event Photography team when I say that we love seeing first-hand how our corporate leaders partner with nonprofits to improve metro Atlanta communities. Thank you, Mark Braykovich, for giving us the opportunity to see Equifax in action with Junior Achievement.

AEP Goes to Paradise

Every so often our team has the unique opportunity to travel the world covering amazing client events. Last month’s Cox Winners’ Circle took us to the Bahamas for an amazing stay at the Atlantis, Paradise Island, while shooting the many receptions and events on the agenda. The setting was just too beautiful for us to keep these photos to ourselves!

One of the most fun and striking experiences was the Bahamian street parade, called Junkanoo, with music, dance and elaborate costumes. The parade is traditionally held on Boxing Day–December 26–but we’d never have known the reenactment on the Atlantis’ Royal Deck was less than authentic. This vibrant show embodied the same passion we saw throughout Atlantis.

I was thrilled to have my teammate Kevin Liles with me onsite to help capture everything. Brandon Andrews, our videographer, captured some fabulous footage as well.

When in the Bahamas you can count on warm hospitality, outdone only by the outside temperatures. Each day Cox guests enjoyed cooling down with Ben & Jerry’s ice cream by the Flying Fish at the hotel.

If you’re looking for a dramatic setting for cocktails and conversation, we highly recommend the Poseidon Imperial Foyer!

Everywhere we looked was a feast for the camera with the bluest of blues, greenest of greens and pastels right out of a candy box.

We’d like to give a special thanks to Cox’s Martha Kehoe for allowing us to be part of this phenomenal event.

Cox Soars into Orlando for their 3rd CMG Conference

The AEP team was thrilled to head to Orlando again for Cox‘s Sales & Content Leadership Conference. CMG SOAR 2015 marked their third cross-functional event bringing together Technology, Content, Sales, Finance and HR leaders.

One of the highlights of the conference kick-off was the President’s Circle reception for high achievers. In addition to some very happy winners, the enthusiastic crowd was clearly thrilled to be there.

Between keynotes and breakout sessions, the Cox team was busy with an agenda chock full of Sales and Content learning opportunities, plus receptions and networking events. There was so much going on that I was thankful to have Lyndsey’s help with shooting.

We also spent a beautiful evening at the hotel’s farm, where the Cox team enjoyed a farm-to-fork experience. The setting was so gorgeous that we could fill a post with just shots from that evening.

Thank you to Kristy Vinot at Cox for including us on the team supporting this event. We value our partnership and appreciate your business!

Designers and Bloggers Converge in Atlanta in Style

What happens when some of the country’s most influential designers meet up with the hottest design bloggers? Creative sparks fly, inspiration flows and friendships are newly formed and reignited. We had the pleasure of capturing all of this first-hand from behind the camera at the fifth annual Design Bloggers Conference in Atlanta. This was our second year on the scene and it provided as vibrant a feast for the eyes as last year’s event.

Bjork Studio was the incredibly cool site for the Sunbrella and Traditional Home kick off party. Guests experienced vignettes designed by Brian Patrick Flynn, Alex Gaston and Drew McGukin showcasing Sunbrella fabrics in a variety of looks.

The event was catered by Proof of the Pudding, which is known for specializing in fresh, local, farm-to-fork fare. They served up a ‘stylish minis’ bite bar that was a big hit.

We were also thrilled to cover a fabulous VIP-only event sponsored by Ethan Allen at the chic KR SteakBar. The conversation was lively, the cocktails were flowing and guests raved about the meal!

It’s always fulfilling when we work on an annual event like the Design Blogger conference and we’re asked to return for the following year. Thank you, Sara Rossi, for inviting us to support Meredith Corporation on this again!

Habitat for Humanity will be here before you know it

Make plans to sign up at your office.  Kick off is in October.

Here are a few more from last year for inspiration!  Team Cox builds the house.

Day 6 was the final building day for this awesome house and the last day for the volunteers from Cox Enterprises to complete the finishing touches.

Tasks on day 6 include touching up the interior and exterior painting, finishing soffit and fascia, installing doorknobs and internal hardware, and installing the porch and ramp railings.

We all know Habitat is dedicated to constructing quality houses, but did you also know they’re committed to protecting the environment? They use smart building practices to minimize waste, like utilizing advanced framing techniques to minimize lumber scrap for all headers and ensure adequate insulation at wall corners. They use smart design, like standard 8-foot ceilings to minimize off-cut waste. They even plant drought-resistant landscaping, and all lots include additional trees.

Stay tuned for Day 7, when the house was dedicated!

The Retirement of Douglas Hertz at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta

Our friends at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta threw a beautiful retirement party to honor Doug Hertz at the Cherokee Town and Country Club in Buckhead.

Mr. Hertz, President and CEO of United Distributors, Inc was the 2012 chairman of the board of trustees for CHOA.

He has used his influence to lead both CHOA and the Woodruff Arts Center and has spent two decades dedicated to improving children’s healthcare. Congratulations, Mr. Hertz!

Habitat for Humanity with Cox: Day One

It’s that time again! Employees of Cox teamed with Atlanta Habitat for Humanity to lend a hand “up, not a hand out!”

Day One at a Habitat for Humanity build is for clearing foundation, building exterior and interior walls in the warehouse, prepping and installing roof tresses, setting floor joists and laying floor decking, and otherwise preparing material for building.

It’s always such a joy to watch these houses go up with the wonderful volunteers from Cox. Stay tuned for weeks 2-6!

Career Day with Cox Media Group and the International Radio and Television Society Foundation

This February, Cox Media Group sponsored a career fair with IRTS, the International Radio and Television Society Foundation, at the Cox Media Group Headquarters.

This year’s focus was on “The business of media: rewarding career tracks explained with a networking opportunity to pursue them.”

Applicants accepted into the workshop learned about the various business oportunities within CMG like marketing, sales, promotion and research. These lucky participants got to hear panels, network with CMG executives, and participate in on-the-spot interviews.

What a great way to kickstart a career!

Center for the Visually Impaired VIP Henderson Dinners

In January, the Center for the Visually Impaired welcome FOX MasterChef winner Christine Ha to their Henderson Dinner events.  Chef Ha is the first-ever blind contestant and winner on the show. What an honor it was to hear this Chef speak!

Chef Ha had such a beautiful message about not letting life’s obstacles get in the way of our dreams. I wish you all could have heard it!

Thanks to CVI for including us!
