O, what a night! The inaugural class at the Ron Clark Academy is celebrated at Georgia Tech’s Ferst Center on Wednesday, June 16, 2010. Ron Clark opens the event in grand fashion and keeps it green and program free, keeping the show secret and saving the earth.
First, Yolanda Adams joins RCA on stage and adds something special to her song, “The Best of Me,” a piece the RCA students regularly perform and have made their own throughout their middle school education.
The RCA underclassman back up the gospel star. . . with pomp and circumstance.
Oprah has contributed nearly $2 million to the Ron Clark Academy.
The eighth graders she greeted after her well wishes will likely remember her presence at the graduation at least as fondly as her generous contributions.
Rounding out the evening and sending the kids off in style, a personal appearance by two members of the Grammy-award winning group Boys II Men brought more tears to the room.
Ron Clark and Kim Bearden keep it going, passing out diplomas and participating in a little impromtu dance with a few of the 20 graduates.
